To obtain a Florida Real Estate Broker license, you must complete the 72-hour pre-licensing course and have held an active sales associate license for at least 24 months within the preceding five years. This experience must be verified by the DBPR before you are authorized to take the 100-question state broker exam.
Phase 1: Verify Your Experience Eligibility
Before enrolling in the course, ensure you meet the mandatory experience threshold:
Active Florida Sales Associate: You have held an active license for 24 months total during the last 5 years. Time spent in "Inactive" status does not count toward this requirement.
Out-of-State Experience: If you are a broker or sales associate in another state, you must provide a Certification of License History (dated within 30 days) to prove your 24 months of active experience.
Post-Licensing Requirement: You must have already completed your 45-hour Sales Associate Post-Licensing education before you can be issued a Broker license.
Phase 2: The 5-Step Licensing Process
Complete the 72-Hour Pre-Licensing Course (FREC II) Enroll in the 72-Hour Broker Course. You must pass the end-of-course exam with a score of 70% or higher. Your course certificate is valid for two years.
Submit the DBPR Broker Application Apply online at myfloridalicense.com. You may submit this application while taking your course to speed up processing.
Submit New Fingerprints Even if you have been fingerprinted for your Sales Associate license, the DBPR requires a new background check for Broker applicants. Use ORI number FL920010Z.

Pass the State Broker Exam Once authorized, schedule your exam with Pearson VUE.
Format: 100 multiple-choice questions (focusing on Brokerage Management and Escrow).
Passing Score: 75% or higher.

Activate Your License (Form RE 13) Passing the exam puts your license in "Inactive Broker" status. To practice, you must submit the DBPR RE 13 (Broker Transactions) form to:
Register as the Qualifying Broker for your own firm.
Register as a Broker Associate under an existing brokerage.
