If you are a Mutual Recognition applicant and Pearson VUE is showing you a 100-question exam, do not book the test. This error occurs when your DBPR application was processed as a standard "Initial License" rather than a "Mutual Recognition" applicant. You must resolve this with the DBPR before scheduling, as passing the wrong exam type will not grant you a license via Mutual Recognition.
Why is the wrong exam appearing?
Pearson VUE only displays the exam that the Florida DBPR has "authorized" you to take. Common causes for seeing the 100-question exam include:
Incorrect Application Type: You may have accidentally selected the "Initial Sales Associate" application instead of the "Mutual Recognition" version.
Residency Conflict: If your application listed a Florida address, the DBPR may have defaulted you to the standard 63-hour track.
Processing Error: The DBPR may have overlooked your out-of-state license certification.
How to Fix the Exam Type
To correct your exam authorization, follow these steps in order:
Stop Scheduling: Do not pay for or schedule the 100-question exam. Fees are non-refundable.
Verify your DBPR Application: Log in to the MyFloridaLicense portal and check your application status. Ensure it specifically mentions "Mutual Recognition."
-
Contact the Division of Real Estate (DRE): Call the DBPR Customer Contact Center at (850) 487-1395.
Request: "I am a Mutual Recognition applicant, but my authorization is for the 100-question exam. I need my authorization updated to the 40-question Florida Law exam."
Wait for the Update: Once the DBPR updates your file, it can take 24–72 hours for the change to sync with Pearson VUE.
What if I already took the wrong exam?
If you took the 100-question exam and passed: The DBPR may not issue your license because you did not complete the required 63-hour course associated with that exam.
If you failed the 100-question exam: You must still follow the steps above to get authorized for the correct 40-question version.
