To renew an active Florida Community Association Manager (CAM) license, you must complete 15 credit hours of state-approved Continuing Education (CE) by September 30th of even-numbered years. If you manage Homeowners' Associations (HOAs), you may be required to complete 17 total hours, including specific instruction on HOA governance.
Mandatory CE Curriculum (Standard 15 Hours)
All Florida CAM licensees (unless exempt) must complete the following 15-hour breakdown to maintain their license:
3 Hours: Legal Updates (LU) – Current Florida laws and regulatory changes.
3 Hours: Insurance & Financial Management (IFM) – Reporting, risk management, and best practices.
3 Hours: Operation of Physical Property (OPP) – Maintenance and capital planning.
3 Hours: Human Resources (HR) – Staff management and employee relations.
3 Hours: Elective (ELE) – General topics related to community association management.
Requirements for HOA Managers (17 Hours)
If you manage a Homeowners' Association (HOA), Florida law often requires additional specific training. Your requirements may total 17 hours:
Standard 15 Hours (as listed above).
+2 Hours: Specific to HOA governance.
Note: Often, the 3-hour "Elective" or "HR" slot is utilized for HOA Recordkeeping to meet the 5-hour HOA-specific mandate (3 hours Recordkeeping + 2 hours Governance).
