All Florida Real Estate Sales Associates and Brokers must complete 14 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years to maintain an active license. This requirement applies to every renewal cycle after your initial post-licensing period is complete. Failure to report these hours and pay the renewal fee by your deadline (March 31 or September 30) will result in your license becoming "Involuntary Inactive."
The 14-Hour CE Breakdown
To be compliant with the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC), your 14 hours must be distributed as follows:
3 Hours: Florida Core Law – Covers recent updates to F.S. 475 and FREC rules.
3 Hours: Business Ethics – Focuses on professional standards and fair dealing.
8 Hours: Specialty Credits – Elective topics such as property management, contracts, or finance.
NAR Code of Ethics vs. Florida CE
Important for REALTORS®: The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) requires members to complete 2.5 hours of Ethics training every three years.
While our 3-hour Business Ethics course meets the Florida DBPR requirement, you must verify with your local Board of Realtors if it also satisfies your specific NAR membership requirement.
The DBPR and NAR are separate entities; your CE hours are reported to the state, but NAR status is managed by your local association.
2026 Renewal Fees
In addition to the 14-hour CE, you must pay the biennial renewal fee to the DBPR:
Sales Associate: $64.00
Broker: $72.00
Late Fee: A $25–$100 penalty applies if paid after the deadline.
Critical Deadlines & "Null and Void" Warning
If you miss your renewal deadline, your license status changes to Involuntary Inactive.
0–12 Months Late: You can reactivate by completing the 14-hour CE and paying the late fee.
12–24 Months Late: You are required to complete a 28-Hour Reactivation Course.
Over 24 Months Late: Your license becomes Null and Void, meaning it no longer exists and you must restart the entire pre-licensing process.
